RDWL....Pros and Cons

Howdy All,
12 year regular (Table 1, Step 9) in need of some guidance and wisdom from those more knowledgeable than I. RI, DB, Ruckus, et al.
Down 4 Rca's in the last month, and losing a 5th to become regular once vacant (health issues) route comes up for bid. For the 1st time in my 12 years, I am being forced to work my K day on Monday for the 2nd week in a row. This week, I was given 2mro as my X; however, next week there is no day available for my X. It is RDWL time of the year. Gimme your pros and cons. This job has taken a toll on me physically to be sure, but wanting to weigh my options. I'm too far in to quit now!! Thanks in advance.....
I like the money so I’m always on & get used most Saturdays.
New Contract will state that mgmt MAY borrow RCAs after using RDWL peeps & before forcing non-listed. Might mention this to them as they may not know.
BTW... your timeline seems to be off. If you’re 12 years as a Regular, you should be at or almost Step 12 on Schedule 1. I have 11 years in & am on Step 10. JS

It really depends what you value. I like the money. In my office it's hard enough to get annual.
As others have mentioned, signing gives you choice. You could always remove your name when/if RCAs are hired.
DACA 3 management is supposed to pick the X day.
Consider if your PM is casual about DACA 3, letting you pick X days or letting the days sit on the books past 12 weeks. The X days can stay on the books indefinitely.
There is a time period beginning of Guarantee Year to end of Christmas Period where you have to use the X day in the same pay period. If you don't get the X day, you are just paid for it.
If the PM allows it, then you have choice when to use the X days or get paid ( after 12 weeks, delaying the money you would have received if you originally took DACA 5) .
In the end , I sign the list when I figure I'll be working anyhow. Then I remove my name when the circumstances get better. Gotta save the body.

I sign it. It's leverage. Once they give you the art.9.2.c.b talk, then you're not allowed to work your relief. You get all leave approved. Which for us Monday relief guys you should be taking every friday off before a holiday. I take all the holidays off and get it approved...thru the grievance process of course.

Might as well get all 5 of you regulars to request a sub...120 day letter. It has to be all 5 of you. If only one does it, you'll get 1 ptf. If all 5, you'll get 2-3 ptf.

Since you have to work anyway due to the shortages of subs you might as well get paid for it. All the R5 money that I made over the years went towards paying off bills and I was able to retire relatively debt free. I found that working 6 days a week does get old but once I saw my paycheck I was ready to do it again.

Morty, I've made money sitting home because of being on the RDWL and "PROJECTED" to go over 2080/2240. If your area manager doesn't make sure that your Code 5 days only are added to your 2240 time and not your 2080 hours then your 2080 hours will be off showing you are projected to exceed your 2080. They TRY not to work you at this time. If that happens let it go for just under 2 weeks (maximum time to be able to file a grievance) then file, asking for 2 days pay at 150%. The order of consideration spells out very clearly that "IF a carrier WILL work over 2080/2240, he could be bypassed from the RDWL ". It does not say if that carrier is PROJECTED to work over those hours that ge may be bypassed. I've won a lot of money while I sat home enjoying my day off getting paid 150% , the best part about being in the RDWL.

Oops....yes, I was indeed off by 10 months. 11.2 year regular (I'll hit step 10 in PP25). I would definitely like the $$, but weighing THAT against working 6 days a week. I highly value my days off!

Thanks for the excellent insight FrozenToes! I HIGHLY value my time off, and the PM had been fairly casual on X day scheduling. Everyone here is providing me with really necessary things to weigh, and I certainly do appreciate all the constructive feedback! I am, in fact, taking Friday - Tuesday for Columbus day :)

That doesn't seem likely given our current (and probably continued) lack of Rca's. Hence, my request for info from the learned.

If you are going to be working anyway, put yourself on the list. This way you get 150% of pay. No X day to deal with. I fully understand wanting the day off as do I, but as times are getting rougher. And as stated, you can take yourself off anytime. If you are scheduled you would be required to work it, but the next time nope. On the RDWL, are there others on the list? There has to be rotation of carriers on the list. In my office, we would rather pivot routes rather than pay the overtime.

"we" ?

Especially if you get like an easy Saturday in the summertime... go in, do the route and home by 1 or 1:30 PM.... and then you see an extra $400 or so clams in the ole paycheck... just sayin'... that ain't half bad on the hourly rate.... ?

i like the money too, but i won't sign the list. i like some days off more. i was on the list when i had saturday as a relief day, and worked it more than i really wanted to, but i was able to change relief day to monday, and haven't signed the list since.

i had built my house, and had it paid for, before i turned 30, and that was 30 years ago, so my days of working every chance i get, are over. you won't remember how big your paycheck was when you worked on some holiday, but you might remember that same day, if you spend it doing something you love, with someone you love.

As one who has been an IN N OUT member over the years, BTD mentioned you have to be a member to look behind the curtain. That is not true.

If you know someone who is a member, and they are willing to give you their log in info you can see what's going on. Their password for LITEBLUE should be different,

Just saying, If I spot a talk to it SMART device in someone's home, I sometimes ask it to set some random alarm for a way early 3-4 AM activation for the day or week.

Take the 5 code. It is a shame the extra pocket jingle does not add to your high 3.

As to your time off you value... I have seen this done.... Management can change your K or J day if you do not want the extra jingle. IE... SAT your assigned day off. But you have a DOC appointment Wednesday where you have to burn some leave. Some wheeling and dealing in an effort to SAVE your days because they care... The K or J day is moved to Wednesday. All is good with the payroll input system.

"Because they care"? I take that as real sarcasm lol
I will not change my K day from Monday, just to make their job easier. I also did not know that the extra jingle as you so eloquently put it, does not add to my high 3. That would be a con, whereas the jingle, would be a pro. Thanks for taking the time to answer Wind!

-- Okay -- partially true.

-- If the NRLCA neglected to remove someone from authorized users, one can still get beyond the home page.

-- Otherwise, as you pointed out, if someone is willing to share their log-in info, one can get behind the curtain.

Splits are not to be scheduled & only to be done “on occasion”, not every week. Our district is supposedly requiring splits of smaller offices & the suggestion has been said b6 mgmt in my office. Uh... try it & I’ll be filing ?
They pretty much split my K day every week... I'm on the RDWL... is there a banana peel grievance in there somewhere??? ?
