I am nearing the time for Medicare and would like to know if anyone converted their RCBP to the RCBP Advantage plan to go with parts A&B or if they suspended it and got a private $0 premium Advantage plan with similar deductibles and co-pays as the regular RCBP to go with parts A&B.

I do not have RCBP health insurance but I have opted for other Advantage plans within the PSHB plans and have been very happy with the coverage. The coverage is great and you get a Part B rebate. I have had MHBP Advantage, GEHA Standard MA plan and I now have the Aetna Advantage MA plan. I would not suspend PSHB coverage because the coverage is better than anything you could convert to with commercial insurance, I believe. $0 copays for almost everything. My cost for self plus one is $298.06 for Aetna Advantage and my cost for Medicare Part B is $202.90/ month, plus I get a $100 rebate each month, as does my wife. Our total cost each month is $503.86. Everything but dental is covered by this plan. I do have a separate dental plan to help with dental costs.

Thanks for the info, the RCBP looks better for copays and deductibles prior to getting on Medicare but this plan looks close to the same with Medicare for 1/2 the price. I already have vision/eyeglass, and dental through benefeds so I think we will sign up for this during open enrollment and change it to part c when I am eligible in March. Wish the post office or union would give some guidance.

Just make sure whatever plan you choose that you have good coverage before you opt for a MA plan or when you just combine Medicare with your plan.. You didn't mention if the health insurance was just for you or self plus one. I am older than my wife and after I turned 65 I always had to pick a plan that gave her good coverage and also gave me good coverage when I combined it with Medicare. Not all plans are created equal. Now we are both over 65 and on Medicare so that made it easier for me to choose.

Yah, we will both be on Medicare near tge same time, me March 1st and her April 1st, so we will try to get all our meds and doctor visits finished and refilled in December while we still have the RCBP. And limit our use of the new plan until it can be a MA plan

Do you know what new plans you are considering? I would be careful to pick a plan that fits your needs until both of you are on Medicare just in case something happens before you will be on Medicare. The following year when you are both on Medicare at the start of the year, it will be easier to choose.

Yes the Aetna Advantage, that is 298.06. All of our doctors are in network. The deductibles are 2000 each vs 350 with RCBP and max out of pocket is 2500 higher. RCBP is 651 per month and I don't know how hard it is to change plans outside of open enrollment. Hopefully we won't need it but its a small risk as we have both been healthy up to this point. What did you have before medicare?

Before Medicare I had Blue Cross Basic and I actually stuck with it for a couple of years after I turned 65 and was on Medicare but it was becoming too expensive. Because my wife was under 65 I always had to have insurance that worked for her as far as in network providers and good coverage. I later switched to GEHA and then MHBP (I opted for their MA plans) and eventually Aetna Advantage after we both were on Medicare. As long as you are aware (and I think you are) of the coverage for those few months prior to Medicare with the Aetna Advantage plan and are OK with that coverage, you should be fine. It is a great plan with Medicare but maybe not so great without Medicare. Some people choose Aetna Direct. You will have lots of time to research and choose the plan that suits you best. Good Luck!
