Rural mail carrier arrested in Culpeper County mail‑theft investigation

Its not worth it.
Theft would be less frequent if we had higher wages. $30/hour you wouldn't crease a magazine, $20 you're a replaceable gig employee.

I feel sorry for the carriers in that office.

I recall a carrier was taking sample Lotto scratch off tickets from the mail, scratching them off, and cashing in the winners.... only problem was, all the lotto sites were under video surveillance and after a while they started getting suspicious about this same person cashing in so many of these mailed sample tickets... Js... BUSTED... 🤷‍♂️👉😬:ROFLMAO:

Here's a related story...🤷‍♂️👉🤯😬:ROFLMAO:

A postal worker at the main sorting office finds an unstamped, poorly hand-written envelope addressed to God.

He opens the envelope and discovers a letter from an elderly lady, who is distressed because some thief has robbed her of a hundred dollars.

She will be cold and hungry for the rest of the month if she doesn’t receive some divine intervention.

The postal worker organizes a collection among the other postal workers who dig deep into their pockets and collect a total of ninety six dollars to donate to needy senior citizen.

They mail the money to her by express delivery that very same morning.

A week later the postal worker recognizes the same handwriting on another envelope addressed to God.

He opens it and reads the letter:

“Dear God, thank you for replacing the money which was stolen from me.

This month would have been so bleak otherwise.

P.S. It was four dollars short, but that was probably because of those thieves at the post office.”

A lot of Regular Carriers make more than $30/hour. I’m a Table 1 making $37/hour.
Nobody makes $20/hour. RCAs currently make $21.89.

Wages are not the issue.

lol
Stuck as an RCA for X number of years, stuck on table 2, being paid like a second class citizen for X number of years to do the same work, dwindling number of RCAs in general so you'll be stuck doing more work, can't even get GOV vehicles on the routes because carriers refuse to give up their POV or management refuses to put one on the route. Constantly being squeezed, constant harassment, constant made up nonsense forced on you by management with the understanding that you just gotta bend over and take it. And I get the pleasure of doing this for another 30 plus years?

Wages aren't THE issue, but they are certainly one of many issues. There is no excuse for mail theft, period, and I guarantee you these thieves are doing way better financially than a lot of people, but c'mon. A table 1 telling me that wages aren't the issue? Chuckleworthy.

Not justifying "theft" of any sort... but what USPS does to some carriers is as bad or worse than theft .. I know a carrier in not great health, currently working at age 65+, trying to get in 5 years of service so they can keep their health insurance, after working for the USPS for 30+ years, almost all as a RCA.... USPS has taken a lot from this carrier for not much in return.... call it what you want.... seems wrong in many ways to me, and there are many stories like this out there... 🤷‍♂️👉

I was replying to the Augsburg’s statement as if any Rurals made 20/hr and the claims that 30/hr would fix it.
Table 2 will catch up eventually. On that note, Step 8 (7 yrs) on Table 2 makes $30.57/ hour on a 40 hour route which is where the chart catches up to Table 1 & then will equal the max at Step 15 (14 yrs).
I understand that if isn’t fair in overall calculation of wages but that is only if the wages were frozen for many many years. When I went regular, I was making under $18/hour. I was finally was able to qualify to purchase my $200k home after 2 years when I finally got a raise to $21/hr.
If I were on Table 2 right now, I would still be making the same wage as I do now simply because I have over 18 years as a Regular.

Wages are so high, that we have a waiting list for people to sign up to be notified if a job opening comes up………….NOT.
Back in the day that was true... getting a job at the PO was a big deal back then.... They would only open up testing every so often because they usually had so many on waiting lists wanting to be hired... Now compare that to today where it's hard to even get anybody to apply... USPS has fallen so far, so fast...🤷‍♂️👉(n)💩

EDIT: Sorry it took so long to get the post finalized as I realized errors in my math after posting and that I had to do some significant math to make comparisons.

The $12+ gap (40k used for 2080 sake) between a maxed out regular and a fresh one is pretty ridiculous considering we all do the same job. A new regular has to go up 9 steps (~8 years) just to reach halfway into that $12 gap. I can understand the bennies (ie more leave) being better with seniority but considering the time it takes to become a regular in the first place it just seems silly to have such a large pay/time gap before we even reach HALFWAY into pay parity with maxed folks.

As a step 2 regular on table 2 on a 45k I make ($65,060 / (52 weeks * 45 hrs)) = $27.80 an hour.
A table 1 equivalent would make $34.26 an hour.
I won't see that until step 11.

In the time it takes to reach step 11 here is what each table would make in just salary alone:

Table 1 salaries in that time:
SALARY75,22780,17081,93885,61486,16986,72087,26987,82588,376

TOTAL: $910,220.89 over 450 weeks

Table 2 salaries in that time:

SALARY63,32165,06066,80368,54370,28772,02673,76675,50777,25078,987

WEEKLY SALARY1,217.711,251.151284.671,318.131351.67,1,385.121,418.581,452.061,485.581518.98,
PAID EARNINGS60,885.5062,557.5064,233.5065,906.5067,583.5069,256.0070,929.0072,603.0074,279.0075,949.00
TOTAL: $790,611.11 over 450 weeks

A difference of roughly $119,609.78 in salary earned before I reach that step 2 value.

($266.67 per week, $533.34 per pay period average difference, 20% of my gross pay of $2,502)
This gap decreases as I reach parity but hurts worse for the first 7 or 8 steps.

I essentially earn 13-14% less in that time overall.

This doesn't account for all the k days and FLSA overtime that would be made in that time made at significantly different rates which widens the % even more especially considering said average gap shown above.

FLSA rate is salary / hours worked * 1.5

FLSA/Daily OT rate for a 45k averaging 6.5 hours on step 2:
table 1 would pay you $71.16 an hour (1.5 * 80170 / ( 52 * 5 * 6.5)
table 2 would pay you $57.75 an hour (1.5 * 65060 / ( 52 * 5 * 6.5)
A 19% difference

Table 2 is significantly underpaid compared to table 1.
The pay does matter.
