Saturday splits, RMPO no help from APO

I am a 5-1 aux carrier on a 6 hr route M-F. Saturday, I work a 8.8 hour route on Saturday and for the past 10 weeks, I have been scheduled to split the 6 hr route, resulting in missing dispatch and last Saturday missing the APO dispatch.

In particular, there is one Aux carrier in the APO who has 6-0 hold down on an aux route that they are normally done on by 1030 in the morning, 6 days a week.

The RCA's are never forced to come to my office to help out, so while all the Saturday RCA's in that office have a 4-6 hour day, I and the other sub in my office get slammed with a 10-11 hour day or more EVERY Saturday.

HOW is this remotely fair?

I am very confused why this is happening, nevertheless my POV is getting slammed with stopping at more than 800 boxes each Saturday.

Additionally, APO is LLV, my office is POV.

I attempted to to talk to the steward who said, "we cannot force this small aux carrier to split, but only assist, and they refuse"...NOW that does not make sense. I'm an aux carrier, why can I not refuse?

If it has anything to do with being 5-1 WHEN do I have the option to say, "nevermind, I want to go 6-0 on the aux route I'm on?"

Since when do RCA's have the right to refuse anything? It seems I havent been made aware of that and am being worked to death. lol.

Are you hitting OT as a result. The primary reason I could imagine not getting assistance is that add'l help would be green card time and manglement wants to avoid the OT possibility.

And yes, the union steward cannot enforce add'l help but your supervisor could.

If you're assigned to an aux route, mgmt should not be forcing you to split it. Splitting doesn't get you the "leave earning" that you are entitled to. Plus... contract states aux RCAs can ASSIST on other routes AFTER running their auxiliary. This doesn't state "instead". If this is the case, you have a grievance and maybe that could force mgmt to schedule the APO subs to work at your office.

I am consistantly in OT. This week, because of the holiday I will lose.

I opted to be relief carrier on another route on Saturday's. Making me a 5-1 option I guess. Does that have anything to do with why this is happening?

My steward literally repeated our entire conversation to the supervisor, who then called up my office and said, I will be working splits every single saturday until a relief carrier is hired for MY office.

So, all the RCA's in the APO office are working 1 route this Saturday, but myself and one other sub gets to have a 11 plus hour day.

I've butted head's with this supervisor before and like many APO/RMPO offices, we dislike them, and they dislike us.

It makes me angry I cannot get help, but come holiday delivery package explosion time, I'll be scheduled to help the APO w/ sunday delivery while my DDU's sit until Monday in my office.

If mgmt is splitting the auxiliary on your "1" day, then they can make you take part of it if no subs are available to run it. They cannot, however, make you split it on the days you are regularly scheduled on it (the 5 days). This is where it might be beneficial to be assigned 6-0 auxiliary. Then mgmt could make you ASSIST other routes, but your auxiliary could not be split. Plus, all 6 days on the aux would go towards your leave-earning instead of just 5. There should be info on changing in the knowledge base.

gotstamps -- " Plus... contract states aux RCAs can ASSIST on other routes AFTER running their auxiliary."

--  IMHO -- That's how it should have been written in the contract!   Instead of,

--  Language will be added later to provide that leave replacements assigned to the auxiliary route in accordance with Article 30.2.G may be utilized on any other auxiliary route, serve as a leave replacement , or provide auxiliary assistance on any other route, in addition to the auxiliary route and/or primary route assignment.   ( IMHO, that does not imply being assigned other duties AFTER completing the AUX route )

--  Should be a bit concerned when "Language will be added later" is part of an agreed upon contract.

you should go 6/0   you are killing yourself for 2.8 hrs , do you really need the $ and abuse?  go 6/0  they will either find someone else or the reg will have to work,    the reg then can put in a 120 letter for a sub when she gets tired of working.    slow down and take the full 6.0 hrs + a 30 min break.  this leaves  just a little time to split the big route.   they cannot say anything to you if you are at your evaluation and now that the holiday season is coming you will be going over anyways.  I think you can go 6/0 at any time  put it in writing, date, and give to you pm and keep a copy.  state that starting next pay period you want to hold down the aux 6 days.   file a grievance if he won't let you.  you can be made to assist but your route will be 1st and foremost they can't make you split your route.   be sure that when your splitting the other route that all subs are doing their equal share.   also b4 splitting routes he should try and force reg in.  they should not split every week.  your mgnt  will have to do something   now he feels he has it covered.  you will get your route + any splitting time on a green card .   you only have so much time in a day.   I would slow down and take at least 6 hrs and 30 min out of you dat  this doesn't leave much time to assist.    don't rush to assist because it is not your problem   after 12hrs work demand overtime for the day. or bring back the mail that you couldn't deliver.  (unsafe conditions, now that is getting darker sooner)   I never deliver in the dark...  also by working the 2.8 hr  you are loosing out on earning leave.

P.S.       I don't really know how the joined offices work but I would think if you hold down the aux and have to split a route, maybe the other office can have a reg on the rdwl work and they can send over a sub to your office.   just a thought.  if the pm is responsible for both offices I think they should be able to do this.  you could also find a sub from another office that works only a j route and is free on the other sat to help out
