Sup everyone, in our office we have 3 carriers that have Saturday off that we can cover. Since the results of the mail count there's 2 J routes . My question is if those 2 j routes get Saturday off ,do they bump a carrier off with higher seniority off his Saturday k day?

-- Could use some additional info / clarification.

- Just 3 routes in the office? 2 J and 1 K? 3 RCAs?

- The 2 J routes could have alternating Saturdays off.

- Is it a Formula Office? Generally accepted that in a Formula Office, J-routes will have Saturday relief days.

"Also is there a written rule where the new J route carriers must take Saturday as their off say ?"

-- A J-route carrier can submit a written request to have a non-Saturday relief day. Of course, manglement must also agree to the change.

- Per Step 4 ( S-9 ) ( and others ), in part:

- Authorized relief days are granted on Saturdays unless another day is desired by the regular carrier and is mutually agreeable to the postmaster and carrier.

My understanding is that the J routes would bump the senior K route(s), yes. The latter would be reassigned to non-Saturday relief day(s) by juniority.

We have 14 routes with and have 4 ptf and 2 rca. 3 regulars are off Saturday 3 Monday and 3 Tuesday. The rest are scattered in other days. 2 H routes have become J routes.

PTF's are not for J routes. 2 J routes would alternate Saturdays. You have 1 rca, and 4ptf for 12 K routes. 5 carriers can have Saturday and 7 can have non Saturday. And you can squeeze out more Saturday reliefs if a few agree to fri/sat alternations.

But yes, things are written. You literally can download the contract and use the search function...wow! Things are written plainly, you can grieve any part of it. On your scenario, 2 relief carriers are sitting home but in reality they're borrowed out to another office scoring your pm brownie points.

Put an end to it, or don't.

And stop being uninformational. 14 routes...okay? How many aux, contract, h, k,j? Nope we's has 14tane routes, how's ah we gonna have dayz offf?

Thanks morty! You actually solve my problem

Is this a rule? Do anyone have a settle grievance?
Don't need a grievance settlement. From the Rural Contract Administration Manual................In all cases, J routes will retain a Saturday relief day. Only K routes will have non-Saturday relief days. Shoulda K route with a non-Saturday relief day change to a J route as a result of a substantial service change oroption election, the relief day will be changed to Saturday and if available, a K route may be moved to the nonSaturday relief day. The K route will move from the Saturday relief day in accordance with subsection C.5.d. Ifa PTF is assigned to a K route that changes classification to a J route, the route will be removed from the PTF'sassignment. The first step when reassigning relief days is for management to determine the number of nonSaturday relief days.

What is a "formula office"? Seen this on a few other threads and don't know what it means 😅. Also how do we know if we are "formula" or "regular" office?

Formula- K-route Carriers are given Relief Days scattered throughout the week & do not have the option to change back to Saturday. There is a Formula used to calculate how many Relief Days are to be maximum during the week.

Non-Formula- All K-route carriers have a Saturday relief day unless mutually agreed to a different relief day.

If you don’t know yet you will soon. It seems the amount of offices short of subs end up this way. It may be only a matter of time for your office.
