Social Media threats-Updated September 12, 2020

Talking to a PM yesterday.

Years ago, a customer threatened a carrier about something trivial compared to this, ie, leaving his box open / mail getting wet or the sort.

Carrier reported to pm. PI's came to house, told customer carriers never are to be threatened and this one won't be again.

PI's told customer to open PO box or don't get mail delivered.

Customer didn't get mail delivered for 10 years.
My Post Master is trying to say it is not a threat unless they say it to my face. Regardless of the disgusting social media threats?

I would err on the side of getting info from a member of a prosecutor's office.
Threats are about the biggest conundrum out there, subject to the differing interpretations of municipal, state, and federal officers and courts. They are hard to convict on, and just as hard to predict how the accused with respond if approached for questioning. If its a case where you don't believe you can put the guy in jail for something, you're on poor footing right from the start.

The old, broad rule of thumb I was trained on was the suspect's ability to carry out the threat, coupled with statements. Kinda grey.

Someone threatens me like that, I'm alerting everyone. Wouldnt be delivering again until that person's dead or in jail.
years ago i was threatened in written form,, i never even saw it.. it came to my attention when i was notified by the plant manager and poom and asked if i wanted to press charges... times sure have changed...

DUPED -- "My Post Master is trying to say it is not a threat unless they say it to my face. "

-- Would it be appropriate to invite your favorite customer to come to the post office for a face-to-face with your favorite post master?
If I hadn’t mentioned, these 2 showed up to the retail window twice and our brave PM wouldn’t come out and talk to them. Had manager give them a number to call.

Probably a good idea for your inept PM to stay away from angry customers. Who knows
what baseless, clueless thing she might say.?

PM apparently doesn't understand what constitutes a threat. I guess a pipe bomb in the mail box isn't threatening, because the bomber didn't rush you with a bomb.

I'm glad you've gathered evidence, produced a statement, filed a grievance, talked to someone in law enforcement, notified all the proper honchos, and removed yourself from daily contact with the misogynistic Neanderthals.

Peace to you and your husband.

I have let this go too far?
With your comment I would like to think you meant management

I would like to think you meant management has let this go too far. Or you just haven't read my entire post. My husband wanted to go confront them the same day I found out. I wouldn’t let him because I would like to keep my job & husband. If you read the entire post, the Postal Inspectors are aware. I have spoken to a dear friend who is an officer of 40 years. I don’t want these people to have my name & they would if I file a police report. He is working on the backside to help ensure the safety of USPS employees to the best of his ability.
I had no knowledge of how truly irrational these men were until July 12th. I am in a safe place and I have bid a new Rt that I will start next PP. I have spent countless hours doing my own research trying to collect their disgusting tweets and FB threads before they disappeared.
I had to go to Dr. and get FMLA papers filed to ensure my own safety because my employer wouldn’t. Reached out to safety captain.
I have already filed my grievance for management failing to ensure me with a safe work environment. As well as a 12 page typed statement of every last thing that has occurred since June 18th.
I can not reach out to the media....that is if you would like to see me stay unemployed. I hope to God no other carriers go through this, including you.
Been off line, yes, I meant your worthless PM and all management has let this go way beyond too far....you seem to have contacted everyone you can.

Your safety and the safety of your family is paramount.

The USPS has completely dropped the ball on this.

I pray for you and all yours.

I just wanted to update you all on the grievance I filed regarding this matter. It is currently at Step 3. DR says the Post Office is arguing I should have filed a workers comp claim with DOL. I work for one crooked ass outfit. Please say a little prayer that our union can get this settled. Oh & our POS Post Mistress is gone for good to another office.

have you filed a 1767, talked to Safety, have you called your POOM, have you called higher on the Union Chain?
This is so totally unacceptable.
I like the idea of filing a harassment charge with the police, get local authorities involved.
Also call the Postal Inspectors yourself and talk to them.
Sorry, I know I am late to this, but was just flabbergasted at your story. (and the others posted)

I am writing to update all that responded to & followed this thread.
My grievance went to Step 4 and the parties could not agree could not agree to settle. An arbitration hearing was scheduled for June then postponed due to Covid19.
They rescheduled hearing for mid September. I was informed by DR this past Tuesday that they were again trying to settle my grievance.

I found out Thursday I had won my grievance & will be compensated fully for all 15 days.
Our Local Steward & DR strongly encouraged me not to file a grievance at the time of the incident. They suggested I go through workman’s comp to try & recover my lost wages because they didn’t think they had anything contractually to fight. I refused on principle alone. I do believe the Post Office has an obligation to provide us with a safe inside & outdoors work environment. I provided them with a boat load of documentation, screenshots of customer threats, etc.
I have not yet received the paper copy of my grievance settlement. But this one I am the most proud of!
My message to all carriers .....Don’t ever back down....fight a good fight & let the chips fall where they may. Document everything!

And just for the record, our PM was removed and District MPOO demoted several months after the incident occurred. The timing could have been a coincidence, but I would like to think my grievance had something to do with their demise. I shed a whole lot of light on how they tried to cover up their actions, or in this case, their lack there of.
