Sunday Work "Reasonable Effort"

Though your choice to make, you risk swiftly ending your career by choosing insubordination.

"Sunday work" is (unfortunately) part of the contract for non-regular, rural craft employees. ?
If they want to get rid of a 12 year employee over this then so be it. They won't be able to replace me. That's a fact.

Someone with more knowledge of the situation can correct me, but I believe the ARC position was created to work Sundays on the rural side, and RCAs would be utilized (sparingly) as volunteers. It quickly became evident that there were not enough ARCs to handle the parcel volume, so RCAs were enlisted.

Are any offices even hiring ARCs anymore? I don't even know what the hiring process is for them, or how/why an office would have one. My tiny 10 route non- hub office had one when this all first started; she took the RCA test as soon as it was offered and we have never had another one since then. I've always thought the ARC position was a missed opportunity and have never understood why it wasn't more fully utilized (at lease it has not been in my district). It seems like it would be a good fit for a lot of people who wanted to pick up some extra cash on their day off.
Ill tell ya..the ARC position has got to be the shortest run employee designation in my 31 year work history with the P.O...smh..another successful plan rolled out???

ARC is a position primarily to work Sundays. They're trained for one day at Academy, on scan and parcel delivery. The contract allows them to also work in emergencies, a route on Saturdays only, after all other RCA's have been sought to work.

It's not so much that the offices missed the opportunity, it's that nobody wants to work Sunday parcels only for what we're paying them. Since the position was created, we've seen perhaps a dozen go through our offices, with none staying more than two Sundays.

Go figure!
Imho it's not just the pay but having to deal with managers that make 10 year olds look like geniuses

Anyone just say no? That's what I'm going to do. I work 6 days, 31 hours a week. I refuse to do Sundays.
Do one Sunday make it last 12 hrs. almost positive they won’t ever ask you again because it would be enough to put you in overtime that week. Just a thought I don’t blame you for just saying NO either.

the rca who runs our aux did that exact thing and they have never asked the individual again ?.

I said no. I'm still employed. POOM said I wasn't a team player. Ha ha ha. Where is my "team" when I'm out in the middle of the hills with no cell phone reception to find the next address? Yeah, right. There is no team. Just me. Having to rescue myself. So that's what I'm doing...and have done all along.

Was there supposed to be some secret stash of retired folks who always dreamed of working for the P.O. once a week?
I don't think it was a bad idea but, as usual, the powers that be did not foresee problems that really should have been anticipated and planned for.

And there really is this mindset among USPS management (at all levels) and the union that working six/seven days a week is a good thing ("Those carriers will make so much money!") and really dismissive of the fact that human beings deserve a life outside of work.

You would not believe how often it's assumed that a carrier will take the high option on their route ...

The same "team" is helping us lift/deliver oversized packages/

It was often noted that the position was for the college students and the RCAs that only wanted to work weekends. What a way to kick the backbone of the organization: tell them that they don't deserve the same money for basically the same job, just because you are balancing this job hours with another's. One day or 7, a fair days wage for a fair day's work should be equal.

No, but here that is all that applied and they can't drag the 50 lbs. bags of dog food up the 3 flights of apartment stairs, so they quit after one day. What they(the creators of the ARC position) thought was there was a supply of college students and poorly paid gig workers who would jump at the chance to work only one day a week. Before covid you got no applicants because the college students had no intention of working on Sunday after a Saturday football game and all that goes with that. And the older people, well see the beginning part of this post. We have gone through a lot of them and none have stayed more than a couple of months.

Yep. I've only heard rumor that non-probationary ARCs exist. ?

Sorry but ARCs make the SAME hourly wage as RCAs.
I would have LOVED to have been able to work as an ARC back in my office-world days but instead I had to work EVENINGS and weekends if I wanted to hold a 2nd job. Back in my college days, I worked the graveyard shift in college to help with expenses & was always tired in class.
