Taking My Time During Mini Mail Survey

My supervisor told me I was taking too long in the office this past week, specifically for 3 days, for going over my daily evaluation. I told him that, first of all, the union guy had always told me to take my time when it comes to mail counts, to make sure I get properly credited. I try not to miss anything in the mini mail survey and double-check what they counted, even though the survey only accounts for 6% (?) of our evaluation, because I believe every little bit counts. And second of all, it’s only weekly evaluation that counts, and I did meet my weekly evaluation, even though I went over my daily evaluation for 3 days.

On one of those 3 days, I had two-thirds a tubful of inverted DPS mail; another of those 3 days I had 2 certified mail that I found in DPS, so the clerk had to count and scan it, but I had to take the time to find an available clerk to make sure it was scanned, because it wasn’t showing up on the lookup package; on the other of those 3 days I got my Metris back that was in the dealership for repair and it arrived right as I was pulling down, so I had to readjust a little what I had set up to deliver what I thought would be in an FFV, on top of readjusting to loading mail and parcels into a Metris, in addition to readjusting to driving and delivering mail safely in a Metris.

In addition, I did have an overwhelming amount of hold mail late in the summer that I had to manage and keep track of on a daily basis.

My guess is they’re going to say there is no excuse for me to go over my daily evaluation because there is hardly any mail, and push this I’m-projected-to-go-over-my-2080-hours talk, thus I have to cut my office time and my end of shift time pronto, or whatever they’re going to throw at me.

Anyone else having this issue or something similar?

I go over evaluation almost everyday, while I was an RCA holding down the route it didn’t seem a problem. The minute I went regular I got told I need to watch it. I don’t know what they expect us to do. It takes as long as it takes.

My Evaluation doesn’t account for the Amazon we received since the last survey. I can’t stay under, it’s just not physically possible.

My issue isn’t because of the mini survey. Just RCA vs Regular. I’m not sure what they expect. My evaluation in unrealistic due to the current volumes.

It’s the weekly evaluation that counts, not the daily evaluation. But management will always tell you to stay under the daily evaluation, even though that’s not contractually true. As long as you’re meeting the weekly evaluation “consistently”, then you’re covered contractually. Yeah, though I know it’s very stressful that they keep pushing that.

I would think that this 2nd evaluation of the year should account for your Amazon parcel gains.

I over eval everyday, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday i might get close within a half hour to and hour. There were 3 days since, Amazon came, that I slip in just under eval.

But in general I’m over eval a total of 7-10 hrs a week.

I hope so, we’ve only had Amazon since middle of June. I’m worried it’s not long enough to make a significant change. But I sure do hope🤞. Especially since I will not get actual time after it goes into effect in October.

I’m also curious about this i found regarding RRECS:

Article 9.2.C.1

3. Rural Route Evaluated Compensation System

a. The official evaluation of a route will be deter- mined on a semi-annual basis by apply- ing the appropriate standards pursuant to the Rural Route Evaluated
Compensation System.

b. Whenever a carrier represents that certain unusual conditions or special services were not reflected in the latest evaluation, the evaluated time may be adjusted by an appropriate allowance as determined by the Employer. Such additional allowance may be authorized only when the carrier’s actual work time exceeds the current evaluated time for the route.

Just keep in mind you won’t see the true eval with Amazon until next October. Just keep doing what you are don’t short change the route especially during slower times. You just getting Amazon have one heck of nightmare coming your way shortly. Big reason I divide routes into sections sometimes 10 different sections, just concentrate on one section at a time pretend the others don’t exist and breathe.

I keep reminding myself to keep at it and it’s nothing like those who had Amazon for so many years without a count to compensate them for it. At least I know it will slowly increase over the next year

Unless if they’re fooling around with the numbers and being nontransparent with the RRECS evaluation numbers, of which there’s still a pending national grievance, then this 2nd official evaluation should reflect the Amazon parcel gains you started getting in mid-June, at least some of it, because it sounds like you’re being a bit overwhelmed with the Amazon parcel gain.

Just from reading the contract provision you posted, since it’s the employer’s job to adjust the evaluation in this situation, then it’s also the employer’s job to define what certain unusual conditions or special services are. But I’m not 100% certain of that. Because that wouldn’t make much sense to imply the employer has the incentive to do such a thing on your behalf. You might want to check with your union representative.

They are not measuring time during mms. So review all of your count at eos.

pending on route and makeup ie distance from box to park point to door. Start thinking what makes more sense year long use a few big boxes for long long driveways etc. then make up for those at short driveways bigger bang for time. Sometimes and days just no winning but something to keep in mind. i Set a goal each day of amount Of times I dismount. Luckily on unluckily current route I run mainly has a ton of hardships.

That’s a good strategy, by the way.

Unfortunately, the increase of parcels does not count as “unusual conditions or special services” which is why so many routes went un-adjusted due to Amazon pkgs gained or lost between mail counts.

*Why tubs of Inverteds? We are to only keep track of them, not actually pull them from the DPS.
* Certs in the DPS do not need an AAU scan. We simply deliver them if it’s correctly placed in the DPS with the Line of Travel. We are credited upon delivery regardless of an AAU. The “Lookahead” is simply a tool to see what is or could be out for delivery for that day. It has nothing to do with RRECS or our eval.

I do get questioned on my EOS but I usually need to hit the Restroom when I get in & my case is quite far from everything so a lot of walking to drop outgoing, keys, gather hamper to unload, find mgmt to give #s, & separate into 3M area. Then there’s the BoxOverflows that I have to sort through along with the DPS Pulls. I refuse to waste time with being organized on the street. I normally work into 2 tubs at CBUs the items that I cannot deliver: 3M, Fwd, Utf, etc in one & UBBM in the other. For now… DPS UBBM goes into the 3M tub with a mark on it.
