What's a good way to get work with other offices?

Regarding the 90 day probationary period, anyone know if ARC days count? I am in a similar position, and am curious if my ARC days worked count against my 90 day probationary period or not. I'd also add that I've had great experiences being in other offices thus far. Can be intimidating and scary, but seeing how others handle the work, and what other environments are like can be really helpful. Especially if an office transfer is in the back of your head.

Hey everyone. I'm a fairly new RCA here, been at it for about 2 months. So far I've been called by one office to help run parcels, but it's an hour drive just for me to get there. I have about 7 other offices within 15-25 minutes of my home, including one a few blocks away. What would be a good way to introduce myself and get my foot in the door so to speak, in order to pick up some extra hours during the week? Call each one up? Go in person?

Obviously I'm most interested in helping my local office since it's less gas, and less travel time, but all of these offices are closer than the one I work for, so it's a win/win either way. Any tips on how to go about it?
Back many years ago when I was an RCA, I called every office within a 30 mile radius of my home. I would explain that I was an RCA looking for additional hours outside my office. I informed them of my availability (i.e. days scheduled weekly in my office) and that I was looking for additional guaranteed days that would work in conjunction with my home office, but would take random calls also.

When I spoke with them I also asked them three questions. 1) How many routes do you have? 2) Do you have DPS? & 3) do you have LLV's? These are the three questions I used to screen office's before making an in person introduction in an attempt to get my foot in the door. My ability to do routes blind got my name passed around locally and I had no problems filling my weeks with days worked.

Plus it is solid networking and sleuthing. Maybe you catch wind of a soon to be retiring carrier that you could swoop in as a transfer to lock up conversion. Much easier as an rca than as a career employee.
Using this tactic is what got me my current Regular Carrier position. In an office that I was helping in often, they had an RCA that was covering a vacant route. This RCA was going be changing crafts and become a mail handler. So I transferred into a vacant route that I held for a couple of years until it became available to go up for bid.

Also by working all over the place you see and learn a lot of different ways of doing things. I bet my current way of delivering mail is a combination of 10 different methods that I had seen while I was on the road!

Ahhhhh yes! I've worked in over 30 different offices, transferred 3 times and I can verify that old saying "That the grass is always greener over the septic tank"!

-- EXCELLENT question!!

-- The 2018-2021 contract did add "assistant rural carrier" to Article 30.2.B.1. ( probationary period of 90 work days or one calendar year ).

-- The 2018-2021 contract also added this as #9: A change from assistant rural carrier to rural carrier associate shall not interrupt or otherwise change the running of the time counted toward completion of the probationary period.

-- Just be sure you have all your pay stubs to help prove your work days.
