UNSCANPARCEL Definition

This is my few cents ...

Anything in my hampers that does not have a scan I use UNSCANPARCEL (USP). I also do that for a large amount of mail I bundle up for hold mail, etc.

AND if we really got a lot of credit added to our routes for USP do you really think we would be allowed to use it freely like we are currently. How much does these scans really up at the end of the day? Couldn't we bring most things to the door, scan as USP, use trip to door, doormisc, etc. Who is to say you are doing something wrong? I personally don't think they will add up to much.

I was as well.

What I thought was always ridiculous was the USPS management demanding, after count of course, that some cases be forced to use one in slots. The union claimed it was the right of the USPS to manage their equipment. However, a good chunk of non-parcel scans should have been credited as parcels if we had 1 inch slots during count.
The way I have always understood it, according to our previous ADR, if the item wonā€™t fit in a 1ā€ slot, with the mail without damaging the mail, it is a parcel. 2ā€ slots were never part of the rule because some offices donā€™t have the room for them.

They get the same time as any parcel

That's been my feeling all along.... how much could these "optional" scans really change anything anyways???? My guess is, not much.... it's the new inverted DPS head fake distraction.... they make a big deal about it, but it's just a distraction as it isn't really gonna make any diff anyways.... it's like watching a dog chase it's tail.... here, punch a bunch of buttons just to sell a stamp.... then stand back and watch and laugh.... šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø(n):poop:šŸ˜

So they SAY.... js.... maybe we'll soon know.... :unsure:šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø(n):poop::oops:
If you don't have a lot of them every day then they won't amout to much averaged over 52 weeks none of these every once in a while scans will. Best you can hope for is to have them during count to receive your 5 second scanner time.

Donā€™t get me wrong I keep track and a running tally daily/weekly on all rrecs scans. They never match what the system has for daily amount
You myself and many other carriers may do this FOR A WHILE but it will get old and noone wants to do this every single day from here on out...as this is a count that NEVER ends EVER...it is ongoing every single day!! The numbers dont match today-will they next week...next month...next year...in 10 years? NO they want and never will...As I say it WILL get old and they know that and also know that NO carrier will keep track every single day. It is not like the 2 week mail counts. These NEVER end!!!!

Even if all numbers match it won't make up for the bad numbers they are using in the formulas to calculate routes. My PM was told to give us anything we argued about because a couple minutes won't make any difference either way.

Been doing it since rrecs was first announced and the options came onto scanners. Just before I started aux it was multiple route multiple offices šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. I get well over 40 hrs every week I get paid regardless. Just means I will get paid to communicate the lack of data. (Hit 40 hrs today for the week)

If you carry it as a parcel, then it's a parcel. If you case in the case, then it is a flat.
Iā€™ve heard this many times over.
and I hate hearing this.
so essentially, what your saying is, if it cases, itā€™s not a parcel? But what about all those little parcels that DO have a bar code, is smaller than even the smallest u-line catalog, and easily fits in the case with all mail. Then that shouldnā€™t be a parcel now? (I know, itā€™s got a barcode, there for, it is) but you get my point.
one day, Iā€™ll get a couple of check packs in my flats tub. They have no bar code to scan, so itā€™s a flat? Correct? I can easily case itā€¦.. the next day, Iā€™ll get another check pack, in my flat tub, but this one DOES have a bar code, and it ALSO easily cases with mail. So this one shouldnā€™t be a parcel??.
everybody cases items differently. The lady next to me will case her 2ā€ thick u-line catalogs, where I will not. So mine are parcels? But hers are not?

Carry the stuff as a parcel, game over, it is a parcel and be done. Don't care if it fits in the case, it's how you take it to the street. Check packs, with a scan on them they are parcels, with out the scan, they are unscanable parcels and I do not case them. 2 inch U Lines, never case them - parcels.

You sorta contradictided yourself self there. I understand what you mean tho ā€¦.
you did say if it fits the case, itā€™s a flat. I do scan check packs as an unscan. I do now scan those u-lines unscan parcel. But I do Case the checks (bar code or not) and I never case u-linesā€¦. But I get your point. Weā€™ve all gotta figure out what is, and what isnā€™tā€¦. If I remotely question it, it gets the unscan scanā€¦.
and if it comes in my parcel hamper, itā€™s an automatic unscan scan. Iā€™ve even unscan scanned magazines that was tossed into my hamper. Is it right? Probably not. But it was in my parcel hamperā€¦..
as far as check packs goes, my attitude is, if one can scan, then why shouldnā€™t the otherā€¦..
how I choose to case mail/flats/parcels should not reflect it being a scan or non scan. I ā€œcouldā€ case most of my u-lines, but choose not to because theyā€™ll throw off my bundle. But I will case those little thin Amazon bags with a bar code, and they do not throw my bundles off.

So, if you had a questionable parcel for a customer with a 2" slot, could you not check it? Or did you have to check it with some random 1" slot with a random amount of mail in it?

Sometimes you don't have room for all 2 inch slots without adding more cases. So a lot of mine have become 1 inch over time but the PM hasn't pushed it since we haven't had a count since his arrival but I'm sure some will.
I've got probably 25% two inch slots. I redid the case when I got the route and after about 3 months of taking notes I decided who got 2 inch slots and who got 1 inch slots.

Needs to be changed up a bit now but I'm waiting to see how RRECS goes before I put much extra work in.

Good For you-hope you find many flaws as I have-and good luck CORRECTING the many flaws you find because they will be daily from here on out!

How will we know letā€™s be real. We can not verify any of the data that goes into the eval. Donā€™t get me wrong I keep track and a running tally daily/weekly on all rrecs scans. They never match what the system has for daily amount.
Exactly how do we know. Answer: we don't!

Our new eval that supposed to happen in march includes Christmas. How long does this current eval count back? Years? Months? Or two weeks? With Christmas included you would think we shouldn't drop all that much if any at all. In the past we where told the heavy Christmas season makes up for the light summer season. That was the reasoning with only counting two weeks. So are we supposed to believe all of a sudden we will have higher eval because Christmas is counted? Then the next count in six months will be less because it will include summer months? If we got down a few hours with Christmas included in the count wait until your next count that mostly includes the light summer months.

What does being "close to the count" mean? As far as I know, parcels (including Unscanparcel) are not being counted during the 2 week survey. All the info posted above should be your guiding point all year long (especially school photos, Shutterfly)!! Remember, everything you scan, punch in, record is an EVERY DAY ALL YEAR action that affects your overall evaluation...not just for 2 weeks like in the past!
Because I would be hoping more info would be flowing from way up high down to us lowly peons to support us in our quest to give them more sacrifices...i mean union dues.

Ok, so this is a deal to me as I get about 5 a day on average, sometimes I can have twenty..I have hospitals and medical businesses on my route that get CD galore in large stiff packaging...pictures in reincforced envelopes, Ulines and Grainger up the wazoo for all those businesses (every week!), and I have a UPS sstore that gets about a tub of mail and flats everyday by itself.

OK so that said, this will be long, this is what I was told WAS a ParcelL by the union:
-A parcel is considered a parcel if it has a bar code on it, or it is obviously a parcel without a bar code

and this is what I was told is NOT a Parcel:
it no longer matters if it is rigid or does not fit in the case.
Ulines, Graingers and Bass pro etc, catalogues are not parcels.
hold mail bundles are not parcels.
large bundles of mail ( like i stated i get a tub a day for my UPS store) are not parcels
pictures in reinforced envelopes
thick bubble mailers are not parcels
cd in large rigid envelopes are not parcels

Now talking to a new 204B that I am friends with (don't shoot me!!) that just went to count training with PM. She said she was also trying to get a straight answer at the training and our union rep was there. He stated over and over again that an UNSCANPARCEL is only a parcel that you cannot read the barcode or cannot enter a barcode in for manually. They even asked about boxes that have to go in parcel locker, nope, asked about boxes that had to go to door, nope.
So hopefully when we have our regional zoom mail count training we can get some better answers.
as I do deliver a lot of what I consider UNSCANPARCEL items and I want to get credit for them.

I have always argued for every item and every minute during mail counts ( I was an RCA on hold downs and jumped to new routes that needed counted so did one about every year for 5 years.) each route I was on went up after the count, and the mail volume factor also went up. Other carriers who just agreed with everything always went down. so, in reply to those that think that these times do not add up...THEY DO!

ok, so anyone got an answer yet :) :) :) :)
