RRECS: Parcel Time

************ EDIT 2 Jun 2022 *****************
This program originally included "Deliver MIscellaneous to Door" time. My thinking: this was for taking the mail up to the door with the package. The comprehensive guide shows that is not the case. The calculator has been updated and this time has been removed (~5 seconds per package).

************ END EDIT***********************

********** EDIT *************
This program does not include the 18 seconds of scan time we currently have under the current eval system. This time basically goes away in RRECS

I'm leaving this program w/o scan time, because that's the way it's listed in the study comparison.

If you want a program WITH scan time included, go to the RRECS: Scan Time thread

*********** END EDIT **************

I've been going through the study results, and next up is parcel time.

So, the good news: if you are hauling the 'zon to doorsteps, you can expect to make some real time on your parcels.

If you are mainly delivering to parcel lockers, expect small gains. If you mainly deliver to mailboxes, expect some small losses. :(

But from what I've read in the study results, the difference between small/medium parcels in the mailbox (and a slight time loss) and a large parcel (and a BIG time gain) is whether or not you take the parcel to the door. I imagine they will eventually somehow distinguish by dimensions, but if they don't, then I'd say take everything to the door and really stick it to them!

The program is here. You need:

1) daily avg parcels delivered to mailboxes
2) daily avg parcels delivered to lockers
3) daily avg parcels delivered to doorstep

If you want to use my walking and driveway simplifications:
4) daily avg steps (this is in the office getting parcels, and walking to and from delivery points)
5) daily avg driveway lengths
but you don't have to use these. Just leave all "0" in this part then add in your own calculations if you want.

Change to your numbers, click the "Run" button at the top, results at the bottom. Here is an example:

Code:
const MAILBOX_PARCELS = 40
const DOOR_PARCELS = 10
const LOCKER_PARCELS = 0

const NUMBER_OF_STEPS = 250

const DRIVE_LESS_THAN_A_POOL = 5
const DRIVE_A_POOL = 0
const DRIVE_A_FOOTBALL_FIELD = 4
const DRIVE_TWO_FOOTBALL_FIELDS = 0
const DRIVE_QUARTER_MILE = 1
const DRIVE_HALF_MILE = 0

...

Your previous parcel time was 150.00 minutes per week

Your cart time for parcels is 1.06 minutes per week
Your organize time for parcels is 87.75 minutes per week
Your mailbox parcel time is 40.10 minutes per week
Your locker parcel time is 0.00 minutes per week
Your door parcel time is 85.14 minutes per week
Your additional driving time for parcels is 22.74 minutes per week
Your walking time for parcels is 15.00 minutes per week

Your TOTAL new parcel time is 251.80 minutes per week

You will gain 101.80 minutes per week

* caveats:
1) The calculator assumes you are only delivering 1 package to a door. If, for instance, you take 2 packages to the same door, you will get less time. About 1 minute less per parcel --> 6 minutes less per parcel per week, I think, but this isn't entirely clear.
2) It also isn't clear how to calculate multiple trips to the same door (think 3 boxes of dog food in 3 knee buckling hauls).
3) There is a field for "Deliver Miscellaneous to the Door," but this, again, is not clear. I took it to mean taking mail with the packages, and is included.
4) It doesn't explicitly say scan time is built into these deliveries, but I'm assuming it is. Scan time is built into the RRECS standards

Anybody run theirs yet? I estimated 30 dismounts/day to the door and 70 to the mailbox. Average walk of 50 feet from dismount to the door. FYI, I park on the street and carry the parcels to the door in town. Anyway, a gain of over 9 hours per week. I knew Amazon was killing me.

When getting large parcels lately and they accompany smalls, I've been bringing those to the door as well. Do you think that is a waste or what?

If I deliver the large parcel before servicing the mailbox, I take everything with me to the door - large & small parcels and the mail. If no one is home, I only leave the large parcel and leave the rest in the mailbox. Reasoning: Good customer service whenever possible. However, small parcels are more secure in the mailbox and the customer will get their mail when expecting a small parcel.

If I service the mailbox first, the mail and small parcels go into the mailbox. Only take the large parcel to the door. Reasoning: We are not supposed to retrace. If customer is home, I inform them there is mail and another parcel in the mailbox.

I don't ring at the door. Never have unless it a signature.

You are late to the game. I have been that for years and customers responded kindly during Christmas.

30 to the door? 50ft average to the door? I can only dream! Smh

If I have 4 parcels that would fit in the box separately, but not together, I'm making a trip to the door for at least some of them.

Also, some customers don't remove yesterday's items from box. ? ?

I hope RRECS doesn't ding us for that.

Will these smalls fit into the box with normal daily load?

Reading the RRECCS times for parcels to the door...
SO35... the time listed to the door is 0.1954 per piece scanned. Plus footage for the trip.
S036... the time listed to the box is 0.1671 per piece scanned.

I didn't know if you would get credit on each parcel to the door. So which is more beneficial for the pay? Since you are walking to the door do they give you .1954 for every item scanned at the door or just the one credit for everything scanned at the door? I just want to know what is the most beneficial. They obviously won't be comparing the real size of packages, I figure all the data will be taken off of what kind of scan and the timing. For instance you may have 3 trips to the door for very large parcels so you should get credit for 3 separate trips. What if you scan 3 small ones at the door that would have fit in the box but you had one oversize. There's no real way to assign the real dimensions to every scan we may have. The data that this is going to be required will be a nightmare. I also receive diplomas or photos with no scan. So there's that too. This is going to be so overly complicated that most will have no idea of what is going on with their pay.

Different question you probably know the answer to.... When does the scanner ping GPS? When you scan the package or when you press enter. Seems like I've heard when you scan it, but to me it makes more sense for it to leave a marker on GPS when you press enter to deliver it.

Wherever you start the scan is where it will show delivered.

I also deliver my bigs one at a time. Still setting my base lines, can ya dig it?

I sure wish I knew when the baseline was gonna be set... we've heard they are gonna collect data for up to a year, and we've heard implementation will likely be late 2021 or later... so that should mean the data that will determine our RRECS evals will not be collected for a while from now... :unsure:

Yup. I've been setting them ever since this thing started and will continue to do so.

And if that makes me go over eval, then so be it. I'll grieve any mistreatment I get from management and they know it.

Like you oi veh, I don't trust management or my union. They say a year, but who determines when that clock started. It could have started last year for all we know. Union certainly won't tell us based on past practice. Now that the contract has been ratified, it opens the door to the dreaded discussion. To me that means the po will dictate whatever timeline benefits it th most, and our union will say "how high do you want us to jump."

How are they accounting for parcels with NO barcode/scan?...I have no parcel lockers and take a lot of photo mailers to the door??
Edit: I'm assuming I'll be getting walking distance time and drive/ mileage for driving around the townhouse development...?
