Hiring process

roadrunnee -- "What is the fast track hiring process? "

-- Good question!

" Anyone have any experience with how it works?"

-- At my first post office long ago, one the regular carriers was hired right off the street as a regular carrier.

-- He might have had prior experience relating to mail, such as in the service. Or the office may not have had any RCA's eligible, and needed to fill the position, although highly unlikely.

-- With the recent postings of the "assessment" test being given and if failing it, not being able to take it again for a year, doesn't sound as if the USPS is really interested in a "fast track" hiring process.

The only info I have is that it takes the hiring process out of office. The postmaster will have nothing to do with the selection. Also supposed to only take 27 days for new hire to be in office.

Not so sure about that before PM had her choice and interview, you know the who is related to whom, I was so elated when it went to a bigger office who did the interviewing and hiring. Helps keep down family members in the office. Now we are back to PM interviewing and choosing. WAAH Wonder who next of kin will be hired. Right now we have me and a sub that was hired in by bigger office that is not related to anyone in the office talk about favoritism.

When the oil boom was going on in north Dakota and Montana. I applied for a career city carrier posting. You can start tomorrow was the answer I got. That is fast track!

Obviously I didn't take it. PM didn't want to start me 3 steps higher. I mean, they were breaking all kinds of rules, why not start a guy higher so he can afford to live there?

Never heard of it!

Maybe the union could bring it into grievance remedies where
Everyone is being denied any time off.

Management.

Management is required to hire subs.

I once worked an overburdened 48 k for a year with only 4 days off.

I filed a grievance for no sub, and I filed a grievance every k day I worked.

My grievance finally worked when it got to the point that the next step would take it
out of office, so my PM couldn't hide what he was doing.
Then he settled in office.

I have heard only that it will eliminate the postmaster/mgr. interview of applicants, thus eliminating a waste of time in the process to hire. Potential job seeker applies with online profile, and if basic requirements are met, is hired (after taking test) without scheduling an in person interview at the office in need of help.
Anything that eliminates the mgmt. messing up the works has got to be an improvement in my opinion...as gerl2's post above demonstrates...

they are attempting it here. applicants take some sort of test. then the highest score gets first chance at a job. no interviews. then they have drug test and office training. next they train with a carrier who apparently has volunteered to train them in some other office. then they train on the actual route they are to be on. 1st problem ive seen..is that the applicant either turns down the position or doesnt show up at all, and then it takes at least another two weeks to get to the next applicant. its been attempted here for at least 3 months. and we MIGHT have a sub hired as of this week. maybe. If they dont take the first week of training and run.

HR in our District talked about a "fast track" hiring process at the State Convention, but gave no details. I hope it is taken out of the hands of local PM's. Much like gel2 lots of friends and family at our PO, which causes a lot of problems.

I hope it works to! At least better than the current process, a lot of biased hiring happening. But I'll be the first to admit that I lack confidence in this program to fix the hiring issues. No silver bullet here.

This is the process I went through 14 years ago. I never interviewed. Took the test, scored pretty high, sent to a mass orientation where we were shuttled from drug test to finger printing to medical fitness. I was in the middle of a semester taking exams--told I wouldn't actually be hired for six months. I think I got called the next week to report to my office for my shadow day. I didn't actually even know I'd been hired until I got that call.

The change will just end up being a "Fast Track" turnover for new RCAs who did well in testing who realize that the grass is WAY greener as a CCA or PSE - So they reapply for those jobs and get Fast Tracked the heck outta being an RCA.
