Table 2 Regular

I'm 47 years old senior RCA and carry large AUX route in a growing area. Anyway, one of our regular is going to retire very soon. I was excited until I found out that I'm gonna be on Table 2 and will be paid cut , I'm earning $23.34 hr now and about $1800 pp, I'm pretty happy about where I am in now even though a heavy volume. I have all health insurances and benefits through my spouse and I do max our Roth IRA every year. I'm not sure this transition would benefit me in anyway. Any thoughts or advise? Any Table 2 regular out there? TSP match, paid holidays, pension.....but paid cut??? If I think about a long run ( step 12?), it may be better, but in this volume of packages, I'm not sure I can do this job for a long time since I'm already in 47 years old.....Decision, decision.........???

B. New Regular Carrier Appointees All new regular carriers will be appointed at Step 1 of Table Two with the following exceptions: 1. Substitute rural carriers will be appointed to regular carrier status at Step 8 or their existing step, whichever is lower, provided, however, that substitutes serving in excess of ninety (90) days on a vacant route at the time of appointment will maintain their existing step. 2. Rural carrier associates and rural carrier relief employees on the rolls before August 7, 1991, and continuously thereafter will be appointed at Step C (Table One). 3. Rural carrier associates who were hired between August 7, 1991, and November 20, 2010, and served continuously thereafter, will be appointed at Step A (Table One)...

Glad you have the opportunity to realise the outcome of going reg. Some never understood the ramifications till it's done.

You've about got all the pros and cons identified. Appears to be somewhat of a wash with info presented. Something to consider is that a large Aux route in a growing area may turn into a regular route sooner or later. If/when so, you can defer decision till then as an option. And as you know, you've got 20 more years before getting SS without a reduction.

Are you sure you'll be on Table 2???? What was your hire date???? If you were hired before Nov. 20, 2010, you will go on to Table 1.... after that date, yes, you'll be on Table 2.... there are still some RCAs that can go on to Table 1... js.... know where you stand....

Since you're currently earning Table 3 RCA pay, you must have been hired before 08/11/2012.... js.... your hire date determines what Table you go to, not the date you make Reg....

Yes, I'm aware of my aux route may turn into a regular route, this will be an ideal since I know this route very well ( 6 days a week for 2 years ). But I'm not sure I could carry this volume ( dog foods, furniture, bed frame, auto parts, etc. ) for another 20 years ?

Yes. I got hired April, 2012..... so sucks to be me

we just had a regular retire 6 years 65 years old postal retirement will pay her insurance better than straight ss no matter when you made regular it was a pay cut.
Yep, 30+ years ago my rca take home was three times my first regular paycheck. And not one regular warned me, the schmucks.

The first time you are awarded a regular route, you have the option to choose hourly ( FLSA A). Anything worked over 40 is overtime. Your tsp/retirement contribution would be based upon 40 standard hours. Mgmt may hold your weekly hours to 40...if they can find a body. In the past couple of years, they just let you do the over hours on your own route. They have enough trouble covering vacant routes, let alone splits.

With winter coming, I would definitely choose hourly. Covid Christmas may be the new normal. But if all you need is income without benefits, stay an rca. Your body might get more work as an rca, though.

Part-time flexible rural carriers will be appointed to regular carrier status at their attained step

I was in your shoes. Hired in Feb of 2011. Faced the regular choice in 2017. I took the plunge because I was tired of Amazon Sundays, tired of no days off and working 6-7 days a week and figured going regular would ease those issues. WRONG! I now work 6 days a week with an occasional Sunday thrown in, can't get time off, and regularly work 1-3 hrs over eval every day. For free! Reason? We have no relief carriers in our office or in the surrounding area. I took a huge cut in pay and get no overtime except during Xmas.
Think long and hard about this decision. At this time, as an rca, you have the leverage! The po is so shorthanded on rcas in our area that the rca calls the shot! Maybe not in Tennessee (no offense) but certainly here in the northeast. Good luck!

I thought B was hourly?

Sundays are your choice. FYI.
