Why does the route need to be mapped when we're already wearing a GPS scanner. It knows where we're at at all times. PM can already look on a map and see where you are. We have a line by line route description. Will we be prodded by the scanner which way do I go? How long do I sit at this spot? Should I move here or leave a package there? Is it safe to go this way or that way? What a fools game this is going to be! We will never know if we are getting paid correctly! Playing right into managements hands!

I've said this before, and I'll say it once again. Having knowledgeable carriers provide detailed mapping of the routes shows we are training our own replacements. The true purpose of RRECS is to eventually have fully automated mail delivery. We mark the exact locations of the box, the driveway and the front door so the future self-driving, mail delivery robot can do our jobs at a substantial cost savings to the USPS. The technology isn't there yet, which is why the test is being delayed yet again. This thing will be scrapped before long, but it will rear up again as soon as they think the technology is viable.

Your telling me if a mailbox, porch , garage, car, anywhere we leave a parcel, that parcel has to be left at the same place every time? By me or a sub who does not know the route? Sounds like a real morale picker upper. I look forward to explaining all the places I was out of bounds on a stupid computerized mouse maze to my overpaid manager babysitter, who as nothing to do but watch me on an overpriced babysitting tool!
They can't even get the letters in the correct trays or the flats in the right tubs!!

I no longer have the mental capacity to make mental notes of where 700 customers want their too big for the mailbox parcels left and it's not practical for sub to keep up with this! We place parcels at box, on porch, garage, under eaves, vehicles where ever we can get the closest to.
Are City Carriers having to play this Mapping of routes game???

You're right. Reality doesn't stop them from pushing this pie-in-the-sky technology though.
There are a lot of tech people making huge promises they can't keep. Just look at the self-driving cars. You know, like the one that mowed down and killed the woman walking her bicycle across the street. The car "saw" her but misinterpreted what she was, and decided she was no different than a piece of litter floating across the road. It didn't brake or swerve, and the human monitor was playing on the phone. Nevertheless, these vehicles are still being tested on public roadways in 24 American cities.
Then there's this whole idea that AI is going to take over 30% of our current workforce. Any kind of redundant work like truck driving, burger flipping, or say, mail delivery. Then some security robot in DC drowns itself in a fountain pool. Your average Roomba can do better than that.
RRECS is simply one incremental step toward fully automating our jobs. Doesn't matter that it doesn't work at this stage. That is still the end game. The mail delivery robot will do what it's told, it won't call out sick, won't take vacations, won't need a retirement fund, and will need no lengthy training process only to quit after the first day on the route.

Yes, I agree... I'm sure they can fashion some sort of CBUs in the future that can be serviced by robots... and when that time becomes closer... CBUs will be mandated at many locations... it's a process, and this is just one early step in that process... before robots started building cars in factories, UAW peeps probably laughed at the idea...
Pretty much ALL mail is "machine-readable" nowadays... and that's not by accident... there IS a purpose... and it's ever-evolving... just sayin'...
Department of Labor projects postal workers as the number ONE profession for job DECLINES in the future... things that make you go... hmmmm...
