That and there are also quite a few times when management asserts "you missed a scan" . Well, scroll to the scan number they "say" you missed and click on it. When the scanner shows "delete" and "view details" , THAT tells you immediately that you did scan the parcel(s). For if you did not, there would be nothing to delete or details to view. When you select "view details" , it shows time and where the parcel(s) was delivered. Plenty of times where the computer management is looking at does not jive up to your scanner.

I wouldn't exactly agree with that. By "system" what do you mean, would be my question.

I'm not saying the scanner system or RRECS is flawed at all (in this aspect). The problem is management made it mandatory that we come in at 7:30 two days a week since Christmas when the clerks aren't coming in sooner any more and are often not 70% complete when we arrive. We also get trucks that show up at 7:30 or they would be ready well before we are all there and this wouldn't happen. Our management wants to go home early instead of letting the system work the way it works. I'm easily able to figure it out so I don't exactly mind either.

I'm one of the first ones out because my route can be cased and loaded in about an hour +/- any day of the week when most other routes can't be (and I'm a 48K+). I see this stuff only because of my route situation, not because of any glitches. Many of the times when we go in at 7:30 I'm stalling or waiting for them to finish and often have already scanned IA's or FWD's and such before they're even done scanning.

The scanning/RRECS system works great in my office. The execution of the PO-603, DMM and such, not so much.

By "system" I would include anything and everything that impacts the carrier's ability to achieve or not achieve their apparent desire for % accuracy....

I used to end up looking up tracking numbers at USPS.COM as well when I saw stuff that was questionable in LOOKAHEAD... as you said you do as well .. to me, that's a step that wouldn't be necessary in a % accuracy kinda system... I'm assuming you're using your personal phone to do this, which also wouldn't be necessary if the USPS systems were so perfect... Call these glitches, flaws, or whatever, but my point is the USPS system or systems aren't all that perfect, so it seems ridiculous to me that they expect % accuracy from carriers using these less than perfect tools... Jmho.....

I was always of the same mindset even BEFORE I worked at the P.O. They want to hold a human being to a higher standard than they do a machine, computer, etc.

I thought you said you DONT use it. If you know your dead spots, use it before or after. If the clerks don't input a scanbar, or don't dock the brick, it comes up as a failure for them when you scan it delivered, so that's motivation to scan everything. Everyone needs to do what they're getting paid to do. If you are confident you did your job, any discrepancies mgmt finds will be easy to figure out. i.e "I didn't have that parcel today wasnt in my lookahead". Im one of the RRECS OGs, we studied it on here, for weeks and weeks and weeks and Im telling you, LOOKAHEAD can help you.
When all the basic stuff is 100% on your route, and YOU have the power to change the eval through scans alone, come talk to me table 2er. 48K for me is 105K.

Far from perfect for sure and a lot of that is the unions fault. Don't get me started on the COA feature that was amazing until our union stopped it.

And yeah I use my personal phone all the time. Their stupidity doesn't need to lead to my insanity. I'm getting there just fine without their help.

I loved that COA app on the scammer... I never really heard the story about why it went away ..

The union said it was an office function so we weren't getting paid for it on the street.

I agree we shouldn't have been able to edit things on the street, but why can't we just look them up on the street?

Pay was the issue. If only we had an organization that we could all pay into so they could represent us to fight for our pay. I swear there is some type of labor organization out there, but the name of those escapes my mind.

Then , it saved a lot of time especially for RCAs NOT familiar with the route(s) they are covering as they didn't need to go through all of the 3982s. Also, with the pathetic way COARS and PARS is / was "working" , you often didn't know if there was a forward in the system ( even after you actually spoke with the customer ) because you didn't get the PARS label. So, you could use the COA function to check if a forward was in the system. This also reduced the amount of no record mail because there was less mail just being chucked into the system to "see" if it would go through. All in all it saved time, helped the carrier, and made things a bit easier and that's why it was taken away.

It was probably the single most useful feature added to the scanner in years. It's sad really.

I mean you could just start typing in an address and it would complete it for you.... you could enter COAs on the fly at the mailbox... whenever someone would write all over a letter saying so and so doesn't live here anymore, I'd just slam in a COA on the spot... And so many other helpful functions.. it really was one of the best functions I ever saw on the scammer... so sad they had to get rid of something so helpful...

I didn't hear anything about the NRLCA. But yes, the NALC says that COAs are not a street function. Thus, ended for all.

I know this has been a "flavor of the month" for some offices, but is now in our district apparently. If we miss a scan, we are required to go back to the location and scan the package there. No more scanning in the office. No biggie, I occasionally miss a scan, I'll go back out....but not for free. How are we compensated for this? I am told we are NOT. And if we are, what is the verbiage on this so I can show district.

I have already been through this crap. Talked to my union Director. We do not work for free no matter whose mistake it is. It is second trip, 3 min a mile plus if you are in a pov, your actual mileage as well.

And yet, some still wonder why the USPS loses many BILLIONS of $$$$$ DOLLARS every year .. it's sorta like route inspections where mngt geeks try justifying their unneeded existence by wasting time and money by following around carriers all day... the level of stupid at USPS is really hard to comprehend by anyone who has not experienced it first hand....
